A 20s Theme May Be Just The Thing For Swing

A 20s theme party is incredible, though most of us can not remember this era in time, and can barely imagine the historical aspects of this decade, a 20s theme party can be lots of fun, and allow your creativity to take over when planning your 20s theme!

Prohibition and the blossoming of the bootlegging trade are earmarks of this colorful period in time. Drinking was illegal and bootlegging gang related crime was big news and big business. 20's related attire such as pin striped suits, beaded short dresses, spats, Mary Jane style heels, Bogie Hats and feathered head bands are easy to find in thrift and resale stores. Just use a little imagination and ingenuity, and you will be good to go!

Create an old Speak easy atmosphere by sending invitations containing black satin bow ties for the men and black feathers to be worn by ladies. Instruct them to read the classifieds personal ads for further party instructions. Then, run an advertisement with a specific password which will be required for admittance--just like the old gangster movies showed! Tell them that without a password, they will not be admitted!

Even for an outdoor party, you can create tents, have a makeshift entry door with a speakeasy peephole, and bouncers with Tommy Guns can be stationed around the area. Have a gun check at the door, and give prizes for those who either thought to come packing heat, or for those who manage to elude detection and actually smuggle theirs past the guards.

Serve your drinks, whether they are hard or soft, in coffee cups to avoid detection, and serve a late night buffet to your guests. Consider make ahead items or items that can be catered to minimize stress. A deli bar is a good choice, but so are assembly lines with tacos, nachos, and fixings. Basically, any item can be a 20s theme hit, but you should make it easy on yourself. Consider serving drinks in plain containers marked with xXx.
