We Americans are facing some financial difficulties, and I saw many other countries. One of the paths intersect, we returned to the food budget. Suddenly we are eating more stews, ground meat instead of steak, etc. These are the Calico beans perfect for those times. They have ground beef, bacon, and three types of beans in a pot. (Feel free to substitute other beans for those listed.) For dessert, bake the cake and frost with white plain Never, Never FailIcing.
Calico BEANS
1 pound lean ground beef
1 / 2 pound bacon
1 cup chopped onion
1 can kidney beans
1 can butter beans
1 can pork and beans
02:01 cup brown sugar
02:01 cup white sugar
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon mustard powder
02:01 cup ketchup
04:01 Cup molasses
Salt and pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brown beef, bacon and onion, drain fat. Add beans, brown sugar, white sugar, vinegar, mustard, ketchup, molasses, salt andPepper. beans in pot on September 2 1 / 2 liter or pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.
Serves 8-10.
Simple White Cake
This recipe is an old church of Christ, dated 1976 Cookbook I have no idea of the city or the state.
Cup Crisco or Spry 02:01
1 1 / 2 cups sugar
4 egg whites
1 1 / 4 cup cold water
3 cups cake flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon vanilla
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla, mixgood. Flour and baking powder alternately with water. Beat after each addition, e. Add vanilla. Mix well. Bake at 350 degrees for 40-45 minutes in a greased and floured 9x13 inch pan.
Never never fail icing
This recipe, as I know, an old mid-western church.
2 cups sugar
04:01 cup light corn syrup
1.8 teaspoon salt
02:01 cup milk
02:01 cup butter or margarine
2 squares of chocolate
Mix in a saucepan, stir over low heat untilButter and melted chocolate. Boil for one minute or until a candy thermometer reads 220 degrees. Remove from heat, add vanilla and beat until thick.
Note: For a delicious white icing, let the chocolate and do exactly as above.
